Anett Alexandra Bulano (b. 1987, Pawlohrad, Ukraine) is a visual artist and photographer based in Leipzig, Germany. Working primarily in abstract macro photography, she is best known for images that transform overlooked materials: cracked glass, weathered metal, aged wood, and mineral surfaces — into intimate, painterly landscapes.
Bulano’s work is concerned with decay, transformation, and the tension between fragility and resilience. Drawing on a childhood spent in rural East Germany and training as an SFX make-up designer at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden, she brings a sculptor’s attention to texture and a designer’s eye for atmosphere to her photographic practice. Her series Melancholia of the Soul and Folded Lines explore the human psyche through the metaphorical language of matter, light, and darkness, inviting viewers to reconsider the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary.
Bulano’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at the ASAN International Photo Festival in South Korea (2020), and has received honors including an ND Awards Honorable Mention, an IPA (International Photography Awards) Honorable Mention, and recognition at CUPOTY (Close-Up Photographer of the Year). Her work has been published in West Trade Review and sisterMAG.
